Interim police chief appointed

The Board of Selectmen last night unanimously voted to appoint Jane Moran interim police chief in the wake of Police Chief William Webber’s death last month.

Interim Chief Moran will assume “all the duties and responsibilities of police chief until further action by the Board,” Chairman Bill Boland said. “We congratulate you and know you’ll do a fine job for the town.”

To reflect the increase in responsibilities, Moran’s compensation will be supplemented by a weekly stipend of $120.36 which is equivalent to 10% of her weekly salary.

Moran, a long-time veteran of the police force, thanked the Board for the opportunity. “My goal as interim police chief is to make as smooth a transition as possible for the next chief, whether it be myself or someone else.”

Boland said the Board has not discussed the process or timeline for appointing a permanent police chief.
