Hollywood comes to Southborough: Day 1

by susan on May 12, 2009

I’m going to try to get over to Pilgrim Church each day this week to document its transformation from a humble small town church into a major Hollywood movie set. No promises, but I’ll do my best.

On Monday, crews erected the gazebo and started some landscaping. The gazebo looks nothing like the one in the artist’s rendition, but hey, I guess that’s why they call it an artist’s rendition.

That’s a nice gazebo. I hope someone gets to keep it

The rumor I’ve heard is that the production company is going to donate the gazebo to the town, and the selectman want to auction it off to benefit the new ladder truck or some other town need. Don’t quote me on that, though! ;)

Sounds like a great idea to me

Does anyone have any idea why The Pilgrim Chirch was chosen for the filming ???..I am always curious how sites are chosen for movies.

Karen – I know they sent scouts around to a number of towns (http://www.mysouthborough.com/2009/03/13/adam-sandler-coming-to-southborough/). I seem to recall them saying they selected Pilgrim because it’s a beautiful church in a quaint New England setting.

The gazebo is going to be left, but the crew says it is made to be very temporary. It won’t stand up to weather like a real gazebo. It is just “stage set” construction.

Very true, Mimi22. Church members told me yesterday that it’s not made with exterior-grade wood and the back of the gazebo isn’t even painted.

But who knows, perhaps someone in town can work this into their living room decor.
