Further afield: Polo in Portsmouth

by susan on July 6, 2009

What’s more American than taking in a polo match on the Fourth of July? Well, I can think of a few things, but with team USA trouncing Hungary by a score of 12 to 6 on Saturday at the Newport International Polo Series, there was a bit of patriotism in the air.

Games take place every Saturday throughout the summer and early fall at Glen Farm in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. The atmosphere is festive and surprisingly laid-back. A few get dressed in their finest polo attire (think Pretty Woman), but most are in shorts and t-shirts, sprawled on blankets and lawn chairs enjoying their picnic suppers.
