Reminder: Skating party on Saturday

If you haven’t made it out to the new skating rink at Fayville Field yet — or even if you have — Saturday will be a good day for a visit. The Friends of Southborough Recreation will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and skating party to officially open the new community rink.

Festivities start at 1:00 pm at the rink which is located at Fayville Field on Center Street (map). Southborough residents Jennifer Garden and David Garden will sing the national anthem, then Massachusetts State Senator Jamie Eldridge and State Representatives Carolyn Dykema and Danielle Gregoire will assist Melissa Shields, Jill Dratch and Kate Poultney of the Friends of Southborough Recreation with the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Immediately after the ribbon-cutting, 7-year-old skater and Southborough resident Sydney Cooke will do a short performance. Sydney holds the titles of Little New England Regional Silver Medalist and National American Miss Massachusetts Princess.

And then it’s time to skate! There will also be complimentary hot chocolate and baked goods at the park.

Parking near Fayville Field is limited, so best to get there early. For more information visit www.friendsofsouthboro.com or contact Southborough Recreation at 508-229-4452.
