I noticed several end-of-school parties as I drove around town yesterday, but none were quite as elaborate as the one staged at the Kolenda house on Blendon Woods Drive.

Dan Kolenda said as a way to celebrate their graduation from Trottier Middle School, his son James and a group of fellow eighth graders organized a huge Wiffle ball tournament complete with a website, game brackets, and customized t-shirts. The Kolenda’s backyard was transformed into an elaborate wiffle ball field. They even had a mock press box with a microphone for announcing players and scores, and portable lighting for when play ran late.

They dubbed the backyard field South Side Stadium.

Play continues with a round-robin tournament this weekend. You can read more about this creative group of kids in the Metrowest Daily News.
