No school on Tuesday – but it has nothing to do with snow

In what might be a case of good timing, Southborough students will get to stay home today for a planned professional development day. That saved Superintendent Charles Gobron from having to decide whether to cancel school in the face of a questionable weather forecast.

Southborough, along with the rest of Worcester County, is currently under a winter storm warning. The National Weather Service is predicting a wintry mix of precipitation to include snow and ice. Moderate to heavy snow is expected to fall in the morning before changing to sleet and then freezing rain in the afternoon.

Projected snow totals aren’t particularly high — 2 to 6 inches in our area — but a possible 1/2 inch of ice accumulation on top of the snow could make for slick roads.
