Southborough officials, department heads clear the air

The Advisory Committee and Board of Selectmen met jointly last night with a number of department heads to talk budgets. The Metrowest Daily News reports they didn’t just talk about the numbers, but about the bumps in the road they’ve encountered while trying to reach a balanced budget.

(Advisory Committee Chairperson Claire Reynolds), who was out-of-state last week, began the meeting by voicing disappointment over what she read about last week’s selectmen meeting and some of the talk going on around town or on blogs.

“There is a tremendous amount of negative talk that is going on,” she said, noting her surprise that department heads last week took such exception to a memo from the Advisory Committee asking them to prepare budgets based on a zero percent and 2 percent increase.

The committees didn’t vote on any budgets last night, preferring to wait and see what numbers the schools come back with later this week. You can read more about last night’s discussion in this article by the MWDN.
