Free chamber music concert at Pilgrim Church on Friday

On Friday, March 18, Southborough resident and clarinetist Peter Arvantely will perform a free concert at Pilgrim Church. The program will feature classical chamber music by Brahms, including:

  • Sonata for Clarinet and PIano by Johannes Brahms, Opus 120 #1 in f minor
  • Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, opus 120 #2 in Eb Major
  • Trio for Clarinet, Piano, and Cello, opus 114

Arvantely said the three pieces are among the last composed by Brahms, who came out of retirement to write the works after hearing a particularly inspiring clarinet, Richard Muhlfeld, play in 1891.

The concert will also feature pianist Eric Stumacher and cellist Jacob MacKay. Stumacher’s brother Ian will join on violin for a movement from a Brahms trio for violin, cello, and piano.

The performance starts at 7:30 pm at Pilgrim Church. Admission is free, and all are invited.
