Southborough Fire Department investigates potential explosive device

The Southborough Fire Department responded to a home on John Street yesterday morning after the homeowner found what appeared to be an explosive military device while digging in her garden.

Fire Chief John Mauro Jr. said a state police bomb technician was sent to the scene, but there was never any danger. Mauro didn’t say exactly what type of device it was, but he described it as an “old, inert device.”

It’s the second potentially explosive device found in Southborough this year. Back in February police found a defused grenade during a traffic stop in the Central Street area.
