What to do this weekend: Celebrate the library and help build a playground

The Southborough community will come together for two great events this weekend, and you can be a part of both of them. Here are the details.

Saturday: Southborough Library centennial celebration
The Southborough Library will celebrate 100 years in its Main Street building on Saturday with an open house from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The library was founded in 1852, but it wasn’t until 1911 that it moved to its current location. Stop by the library to enjoy refreshments, including apple cake baked by members of the Friends of the Library. Winners of the library’s essay and art contest are expected to be announced around 11:30 am.

Sunday: Help complete the South Union Playground
Volunteers are needed to help wrap up the remaining work at the new South Union Playground. Community members will be doing things like clearing small stones and spreading mulch. All help is welcome, even if only for an hour. Bring a shovel, wheelbarrow, gloves, water, and hat. The work starts at 2:00 pm at the South Union School (Arts Center, 21 Highland Street). Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance by contacting Recreation Director Doreen Ferguson at  508-229-4452 or dferguson@southboroughma.com.
