Water main break affects southside homes

A number of families on the south side of town woke up to limited water pressure this morning after a water main broke on Liberty Drive overnight. Crews are currently working on the problem.

A DPW representative said they started getting calls early this morning. According to the DPW, only a handful of homes were without water entirely, but many others reported low water pressure.

DPW crews have reportedly isolated the break and are replacing the pipe. I’ve been told by a number of area residents that their water pressure is now back to normal.

When the water returns to full pressure, residents may find it looks brown. The DPW advises residents to let the water run for several minutes until it appears clear. Do not do laundry while the water is still brown as it will stain clothes.

No word on the cause of the break.

Thanks for the timely, relevant news as usual. We may have lost pressure, but it came back on with spurts, like air in the line. The noise even (really) scared my daughter, when she was up in the night to use the bathroom.
