Large turnout expected at Summer Nights this year

The biggest change to Southborough Summer Nights this year just might be its date. The annual summer celebration typically has taken place on a Sunday evening, but this year organizers moved the festivities to Saturday. It’s a change they expect will ramp up the turnout.

Summer Nights will take place (rain permitting) on Saturday, August 25 at Neary School. Read more about all the fun that’s planned in this press release from the Southborough Recreation Department.

TREMENDOUS COMMITMENT FOR SOUTHBOROUGH SUMMER NIGHTS
Band Sponsor Secured, New Amusements and Fundraiser for Local Family

In true Southborough fashion, the Southborough Summer Nights event has come together again this year with tremendous support from the town and surrounding area businesses and organizations. Without their generosity, this event would not be possible.

In addition to being rolled into the Southborough Recreation Department, the event is being moved to Saturday, August 25, 2012, to accommodate potential rain date delays and school-year schedules. With the event on a Saturday an even larger turnout is expected.

Southborough Summer Nights will be holding a special raffle fundraiser to benefit the Shanahan Relief Fund. Southborough Firefighters help others in need and now it is time for the community to come together to help one of their own. Seventeen month old Brendan Shanahan, son of Firefighter Chris Shanahan and his wife Melinda, was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia. Donations can also be sent to Brendan Shanahan Relief Fund, St. Mary’s Credit Union, 439 Main Street, Hudson, MA 01749.

This year, we have added new amusements and entertainment for the toddler, tween and teen age groups. Amusements and entertainment will include movement and music, video arcade, wrecking ball, ladder climb, basketball shoot out, moon walk, obstacle course, pony rides, face painting, and the popular bubble romp. Entertainment will be provided by The Infractions. Food this year will include pizza from Domino’s, sandwiches by Quizno’s, hot dogs, burgers, fried dough, and cotton candy by Dean’s Concessions, Brownies by Yummy Mummy and ice cream by The Creamery.

Our dedicated sponsors – Bill Depietri of Capital Group Properties and the non-profit organization, Friends of Southborough Recreation – are sponsoring the spectacular firework display provided by Atlas Pyro Vision Productions which will take place at dusk. Each year, St. Mary’s Credit Union gives the event a generous donation and this year they stepped up to be the sole sponsor for the band. Funding for the free amusements and entertainment include Brendon Properties, Eagle Leasing, Fay School, Greenwood Industries, Ken’s Foods Inc., Long Cadillac Hummer Saab, Marlborough Savings Bank, Middlesex Savings Bank, Phaneuf Concrete Cutting & Breaking, Representative Carolyn Dykema, Senator Jamie Eldridge, Southborough House of Pizza, Southborough Kindergroup, and Tomasso Trattoria.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors, food vendors, volunteers, Police, Fire and Public Works departments for helping to continue this annual event” said Doreen Ferguson, Director of Southborough Recreation Department. “I am always amazed at how the community comes together to make this event happen. We’re very grateful.”

Please stop by the booths from Active Soles, Children’s Music Academy, Gadget Guy, Meininger Family Chiropractic and Seeking Sitters. If you would like a booth at the event, there is still time.

Continue to check out the Southborough Summer Nights Facebook page for updates and we look forward to seeing even more residents for another spectacular Summer Nights event at Neary School starting at 5pm on Saturday August 25 with a rain date of Sunday, August 26.
