Selectmen to interview town administrator candidates tonight – How you can watch (UPDATED)

The Board of Selectmen meets tonight to interview three finalists vying for the position of Southborough Town Administrator. The candidates were selected by a screening committee that reviewed more than 60 resumes.

Each interview is scheduled for one hour beginning at 6:00 pm. Here’s the order of events:

  • 6:00 pm – Leon Gaumond (Town Administrator, West Boylston)
  • 7:00 pm – Mark Purple (Interim Town Manager, Ashland)
  • 8:00 pm – Anita Scheipers (Assistant Town Administrator, Lincoln)

Selectmen may vote on a candidate immediately following the interviews, although Chairman John Rooney says that’s “highly unlikely.” They also have a meeting posted for Wednesday morning at 7:30 am, with a vote on the town administrator candidates the only item on the agenda.

As selectmen attempt to increase the power of the town administrator, most agree the choice of candidates is a critical one for the future of the town. Rooney told the Metrowest Daily News the vote will likely be the most important of his tenure.

The interviews tonight are open to the public, so you can come by the Town House Hearing Room (on the second floor) to watch for yourself. They’ll also be broadcast live on public access cable, so you can tune in to watch from the comfort of your couch, or even DVR them for later. Broadcast channels are Verizon channel 37 and Charter channel 12.

Update 3:30 pm: Just to clarify, while you’ll be able to watch the interviews as they happen (either live or on cable), you will not be able to ask questions of the candidates. Selectmen said due to time constraints, they will not entertain questions from residents.
