Obituary: Willard ‘Bill’ S. Putnam, 88, former Southborough town accountant

Willard ‘Bill’ S. Putnam, 88, of Southborough, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Marlborough Hospital after suddenly being stricken ill. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Wheaton) Putnam for the past 60 years.

Bill was a US Army veteran serving in World War II. He was the administrative assistant to the former Police Chief, Frank Mattioli before he became the Southborough town accountant for many years. Bill was a member of United Brethren Masonic Lodge of Marlborough and a member of Amicable Masonic Lodge of Cambridge. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid crossword puzzler.

In addition to his wife he leave his son, Dana Putnam of Southborough; his brothers, Richard Putnam, his twin, of N. New Portland, ME; Frank Putnam of NC; a brother in law, Gordon Wheaton of TX and several nieces.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 24, from 4 to 6 PM at Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 25, at 11 AM at Southborough Rural Cemetery on Middle Road. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Friends of the Southborough Library, 25 Main St., Southborough, MA 01772.
