Why flags are at half staff today: Thursday, August 23, 2012

For the second time this week, flags in Southborough and across the state are flying a half staff. Today flags have been lowered in honor of U.S. Army MSG Gregory R. Trent of Norton who passed away from wounds suffered in Baktabad, Afghanistan. Trent was injured on July 31 when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. He died on August 8 from his injuries. He was 38 years old.

Yesterday, Governor Deval Patrick ordered flags to be flown at half staff in honor of Marine Cpl. Kevin Dabrowski. The 24-year-old Webster native died on August 11 from injuries suffered in a car accident in South Carolina. Dabrowski served three tours of duty, including deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan and on the USS Mesa Verde, and had been awarded numerous medals.

Flags will also fly at half staff tomorrow, when they will be lowered for U.S. Army SPC David A. Mulno. A Tewksbury native, Mulno was killed on August 11 after crashing his motorcycle in El Paso, Texas. He was 23 years old.
