Obituary: William Eldred McKie, 90, Peters High graduate, WWII veteran

William Eldred McKie, 90, of Natick passed peacefully from this life on Friday, February 8, 2013. Bill died at home surrounded by family members and his loving wife of 69 years, Evelyn (Johnson) McKie.

Born and raised in Southborough, to the late William S. and Ruth (Ladd) McKie he was known as Eldred as a child. As a freshman at Peters High School he met the love of his life, Evelyn Johnson. They married on November 21, 1943.

Bill enlisted in the Navy during World War II and spent time in both the European and Pacific theaters. After the war Bill and Evelyn moved to Natick where he spent the rest of his life. Bill loved to travel with his family, camping across this country and Canada. After retiring from Dennison Mfg., they spent many winters in Florida. A tuba player in his youth Bill loved music, sang and played both the piano and organ pulling the family into sing-a-longs at many family get-togethers.

Bill and his wife Evelyn have four married children, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His children are Barbara M. Luther and her husband Wilson of Upton, Donald W. McKie and his wife Elaine of Franklin, Susan E. Nash and her husband Peter of Blackstone, and Linda M. Russo and her husband Peter of Ashland. His grand-children are Christine B. Abbruzzese and her husband Tom of Mendon, Buddy Prince and his wife Sheri of NC, Amanda Snedegar and her husband Terry of Northbridge, Pamela Fula and her husband Marc of Attleboro, Spec. Andrew McKie, US Army and his wife Jackie of OK, Adam Nash and his wife Michele of RI, Jessica StLaurent and her husband Adam of Wrentham and James Russo of Ashland, John Russo of Shrewsbury and Kim Russo (deceased). Great-grand children are Megan, Sarah and Zack Kelly, Emilee, and Alex Snedegar, Ciana Fula, Kevin Nash, Maddy and Cameron StLaurent.

Funeral arrangements are pending due to the storm and will be under the direction of Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough, MA.
