Paint murals to benefit Boston bombing victims on Sunday

Southborough resident Lanting Huang-Truong is calling on her artistic talents to benefit victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. Owner of the Bigelow Center for the Arts, Lanting has organized a community mural project, with the murals to be auctioned off and proceeds donated to The One Fund Boston.

Lanting has collected drawings from area residents that contain images or words showing the spirit of the Boston Marathon. On Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, members of the community are invited to the South Union Building (21 Highland Street) to help paint the murals.

Lanting said the project is intended not only to raise money for the bombing victims, but also as a way to heal. “The goal of this project is to help the public to find relief and express their own feelings toward this tragic event by doing an art project,” she said.

The murals will be auctioned off at the 5K Road Race being organized by FitStudio 28 and other local businesses. The race takes place in Southborough on Sunday, June 9. You can find more information, including how to register, in this post.

In addition to help with the mural painting on Sunday, volunteers are also needed to help plan the silent auction and work on refreshments. If you’re interested, contact Lanting at 774-285-1515.
