What the Fire Department’s been up to: Member honored, tragedy remembered, and emergency response

The Southborough Fire Department logs still are still on hold.*

Luckily, the department has continued making use of its Facebook page.

Here’s some of the more recent news the department has shared:

Firefighter honored – September 9

Lt. Christian Dano from the Southborough Fire Department is one of five candidates in the State of Massachusetts to be nominated as SAFE Educator of the Year. This is for his work with the Senior SAFE program. The award will be given September 30th.

Remembering 9/11 – September 11

Members of the Fire and Police Departments, along with Representative Carolyn Dykema, paused yesterday for moment of remembrance on the 13th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11/01. Thank you to Chaplin Dick Martino for leading the service and Firefighter Chris Delarda for chiming the bell in honor of those who lost their lives during this horrific event.

Responding to Woodward School alarm – September 15

Group 1 on the job today. Responded to the Trotter Middle School today for a fire alarm activation. A power surge set off the panel. Companies cleared without incident. The students and faculty evacuated quickly and efficiently.

Car vs. Tractor Trailer – September 17

Motor vehicle accident Route 9 east at the on on ramp to Rt 85. Car vs tractor trailer. One person transported w minor injuries. Seek alt routes.

*As I previously reported, the Police and Fire Departments began use of their new CAD (computer aided dispatch) in August. Eventually, the Fire logs will be published again. But for now, the department’s higher priority is becoming proficient with using the system.
