Obituary: Stephen J. Woodland, 62

Stephen J. Woodland died on Sunday, October 12th at Marlborough Hospital, Marlborough, after being unexpectedly stricken at his Southborough home early Wednesday morning, at 62 years.

Born & raised in Chelsea, he attended St. Rose Grammar School & St. Rose High School & in 1970, graduated from Chelsea High School. He continued his education at Suffolk University & became an alumnus of North Shore Community College in 1975. He went to work for T.J. Max International & became an Assistant Vice President of Loss & Prevention, a position he held for the past 32 years. Stephen was an energetic personality, who brought both professionalism & joy to the work place. He excelled in the execution of his position & shone among the greats, for his extraordinary personality, with his colleagues. He would want to be remembered as a long-time member of the “Altar-Servers” Guild of St. Rose Parish, & as a member in good standing to the Chelsea Knights of Columbus.

He loved animals & was an avid supporter for the care of abandoned animals.

Stephen is the beloved husband of 24 years to: Jo-Ann (Savignano), & the cherished father of Olivia J. Woodland of Southborough, MA. He is the dear brother to Chelsea Police Lieutenant Nancy E. Haumann & her husband, Retired Chelsea Police Sargent Joseph J. Haumann, of Saugus. Cherished son-in-law of Joan H. (Arnold) Savignano of Revere & the late Fred D. Savignano. He is also lovingly survived by his faithful sisters & brothers-in-law: June M. Bowman & her late husband Dr. James F. Bowman, PhD., of Newton, Mary Ellen Wilson & her late husband Robert J. of Revere, & Paul S. Savignano & his wife Joan M. Niles of Peabody. He is son to the late Joseph & Rita (Fahey) Woodland, & also leaves many adoring nieces & nephews.

To honor his work with animals, the family asks that rather than flowers, remembrances be made to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at ANGELL, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130-9923.

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, October 15th, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Stephen J. Woodland, who died on Sunday, October 12th at Marlborough Hospital, Marlborough, after being unexpectedly stricken at his Southborough home early Wednesday morning, at 62 years.

All are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Service on Thursday, October 16th at 11 a.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel, 302 Elm St., Everett. Private interment will be held in the Family Estates at Woodlawn Cemetery.
