The week in government (11/3-11/9/14): BOS at Senior Center tonight, tax classification hearing

After months of pushing by member Phil Jenks, the Planning Board is finally sharing a material packet in advance with their agenda. Included in it is a draft of the proposed Site Plan Review Bylaw.

But the biggest news in this week’s meetings is that the Board of Selectmen meeting will be held tonight, conflicting with the Planning Board’s regularly scheduled meeting.

That means the Planning Board will get top billing with live broadcast from the hearing room tonight. The BOS is relegated to the Senior Center at 9 Cordaville Road. The BOS’ first scheduled broadcast is tomorrow morning at 8:00 am.

Tonight’s BOS meeting includes a hearing and decision on tax rate classification. Assessors are recommending continuing with the single rate. (That rate would decrease by $0.16, but the bill for an average single family is projected to increase 2.9%.)

Last year, there was a large pro-business turnout lobbying against splitting the rate. That was in response to a scheduled presentation by Carl Guyer pitching for a residential/commercial rate split. This year, with no scheduled presentation on the agenda, the turnout is likely to be much smaller.

Below is a selection of the committee and board meetings for the week along with selected highlights from the agendas. All these meetings are open to the public, so you’re welcome to stop on by.

Be aware that changes to the meeting schedule are known to happen throughout the week. For a complete list of meetings, visit the town website.
