This week in sports: Post season update & photos

Playoff season is in full swing. Here’s where Algonquin varsity sports stand. (Scroll down for contributed photos of Field Hockey and Soccer in action.)

Golf

After an unprecedented winning season, the boys finished 5th in their Division 1 State Tournament at Springfield on Monday. (For more details, here are the tournament results)

Field hockey

On Wednesday, the 4th seed team won its first tournament round against 13th seed St Peter-Marian, 7-0. They went on to best 5th seed Westborough 5-1 in Friday’s quarter finals. (Scroll down for pics from the game.)

Now, the team faces 1st seed Nashoba at Lunenburg for the semi-finals. The match is set for tonight, November 3 at 7:15 pm. The winning team will head to Grafton for the state finals this Thursday night.

Girls soccer

The 4th seed team lost their past two pre-tournament games last week. This Tuesday, November 5, they’ll play 5th seed Tantasqua for the quarter finals. The home game is set for 5:00 pm. (Scroll down for recent pics of the team in action.)

Boys soccer

With another win under its belt last week, the 1st seed team won a Bye for their first round. They’ll have the home field advantage in the quarter finals this week. The game is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 5, opponent TBA.  (Scroll down for recent pics of the team in action.)

Volleyball

The 7th seed team won its first tournament round on Thursday.  They beat 10th seed Doherty, 3-0. The girls are headed to 2nd seed Natick for their quarter finals this Tuesday, November 4 at 7:00 pm. The winner will play in the semi-finals on Thursday.

Football

On Friday, the 5th seed football lost it’s playoff bid in Quarter finals to 4th seed Shrewsbury, 26-7. Now it’s back to non-playoff games.

This Friday they’ll head to Marlborough High to play the 8th seed team.

Cross Country

Last Thursday, the girls won their meet at Westborough 22-35. Now, boys and girls head to the Central tournament this Saturday, November 8. It will take place at Gardner Municipal Golf Club, time TBD.
