Coming up quickly are three public school forums that some parents should know about.

One focuses on the Northborough-Southborough district’s vision for technology in the schools. Another helps parents understand recent MCAS assessments. And a third is a chance for the community to meet AVRT Superintendent candidates.

Meet the AVRT Superintendent Candidates – November 17

If you have a child attending or heading to Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School, you may want to join them on Monday night:

On Monday, November 17th, there will be a public forum to introduce the candidates for the position of Superintendent-Director of Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School.

Patrick Collins resigned on July 31, and former, retired, Superintendent-Director Mary Jo Nawrocki has been brought back as the interim until the new person is hired.

The public is invited to meet and question the candidates from 6 – 8 PM in the school’s Lecture Hall, 215 Fitchburg Street, Marlborough, MA.

Southborough MCAS Community Forum – November 20

If you have been concerned or confused by results recently shared on the district’s MCAS scores, mark your calendar. Assistant Superintendent Greg Martineau is hosting a forum:

To provide parents with an opportunity to learn more about the District’s performance on the 2014 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), ask questions, and learn more about how to interpret the results.

It will be held Thursday, November 20, 6:30 – 7:30 pm at Trottier Middle School.

Technology Community Forums – November 24 & December 1

When Neary School announced launch of an iPad pilot for 4th grade last year, some parents felt blindsided. But some parents who participated in the district’s technology planning pointed fingers back. They asked why parents hadn’t participated in past forums on technology.

Wherever you stand on how technology should be used in our schools, if you want to have a voice, now is the time.

An emailed letter to parents on the school’s 2020 Vision contains information some may have overlooked.

A Technology Plan Study Group has been formed. They will be creating an updated “roadmap” of how technology goals developed in the School’s 2020 Vision will be implemented.

The group will analyze data, choose strategies, and write the plan. As an initial step, they are holding Technology Community Forums. Here, they will explain the process, answer questions, and accept feedback from the community.

The following meetings will be held at 6:30 pm:

  • Northborough – Monday, November 17, Melican Middle School
  • Southborough – Monday, November 24, Trottier Middle School
  • Regional – Monday, December 1, Algonquin Regional High School

If you are interested in joining the study group, email Assistant Superintendent Greg Martineau at gmartineau@nsboro.k12.ma.us.
