Obituary: Robert G. “Chip” Horne, 58

Robert G. “Chip” Horne, 58, of Southborough died suddenly Wednesday November 19, 2014 at his home.

Born in Hyannis, he was raised in Chatham the son of the late Charles and Nancy (Goslee) Horne. He was a graduate of Chatham High School Class of 1974 and of Worcester Polytechnic Institute Class of 1980, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and studied Physics and Business. Chip was an Information Technology Specialist for First Notice Systems, Inc. and a consultant for Costas Provisions Corp. He was an active member of the First Church in Marlborough, serving as a deacon and trustee among many other roles. Locally, he volunteered at Worcester State Hospital, Pine Grove Men’s Home, and Our Father’s Table; he was also an active participant in the ongoing efforts to rebuild following Hurricane Katrina.

Chip was a sci-fi aficionado, full of goofy jokes and good humor, and he embraced a love for both science and imagination. He enjoyed scuba diving and running, and loved sailing and playing tennis on Cape Cod. He was young at heart and constantly went above and beyond to help the people around him. Those who had the privilege of knowing him would agree that the world could use a few more people like Chip. He will be ardently missed by friends and family alike.

He leaves his daughter Alexandra M. Horne of Tempe, AZ; his sister Suzanne Whelden and her husband, Norris, of Nantucket; an Uncle, Donald Horne, and his wife, Skip, of Harwich, MA; a niece Tessa Whelden of Nantucket, nephews Caleb, Schuyler, and Seth Whelden, and nine beloved cousins.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday November 25 at 10:00 a.m. at The First Church in Marlborough (Congregational), 37 High St., Marlborough.

Burial will follow in People’s Cemetery, Chatham. Calling hours will be held Monday November 24 from 6-9 p.m. in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. All are invited to sign Chip’s online guestbook at www.CollinsFuneral.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home.
