Woodward’s Wake Up & Work Out postponed to September 15th start

Earlier this week, I answered a commenter’s question by stating that Woodward’s Wake Up and Work Out program will start this coming Tuesday. Today, I learned that the school plans to delay the start an extra week.

Organizers made the change to avoid adding to next week’s expected traffic woes. The morning program will now start on Tuesday, September 15.

The popular free program is run by School Nurse Mary Ellen Duggan and Phys Ed teacher Tiffany Goode. Fun games get students’ blood pumping for a great day at school.

In past communications, Principal Randall explained:

Research suggests that children who exercise before school have more energy, improved attention, increased self-esteem, better behavior and are more involved and engaged during school. The goals of this program are to maximize and increase student fitness levels and healthy attitudes toward exercise and fitness and at the same time help the students be better prepared to focus and learn.

The program runs Tuesday and Friday mornings. To participate, children must be dropped off at 8:00 am. (Don’t be late, because anyone arriving after 8:10 am can’t join in. Between 8 and 8:10, directions are given, teams are formed, etc.)

No registration is required.
