Events this week: Dykema office hours this morning; Forum on Senior Housing needs; and Printmaking for young adults

  • ARHS Open House (6:30 – 8:45 am) @ Algonquin Regional High School: Parents will follow their teen’s Monday schedule, and the first “bell” rings at 6:30pm. This is intended to be an overview, with a great opportunity to meet teachers and learn about their teaching approach and contact information. It is best to arrive early to ensure that you get your bearings and can take in your desired stops. Each “period” will be 15 minutes, with a 5 minute passing time. We will finish at 8:45. New this year will be a table where you can sign up to be a volunteer chaperone for field trips. During the course of the year our students in their various classes have the opportunity to take a curriculum enhancing field trip to a nearby site, and we require chaperones to join teachers to meet venue requirements.
  • Representative Dykema Local Office Hours (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Mauro’s Cafe, 2 Main Street: Representative Dykema will be holding her quarterly office hours in town. Residents are encouraged to stop by to share concerns, questions and opinions on state issues or simply to chat over a cup of coffee. As always, if the scheduled office hours are not convenient for you, please call the office at (617) 722-2680 or email her aide at andrea.pessolano@mahouse.gov to set up a personal appointment either in the district or at the State House.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library, Children’s Room: This story time is for children age 2-5 years and their parents or caregivers. Each week will feature several stories and a craft based on a theme. Drop-in, no registration required. Each week will feature several stories and a craft based on a theme. Drop-in, no registration required. The program is repeated 3 mornings per week (Mon, Tues, & Wed) most weeks during the school year. There are occasional breaks in the schedule.

  • Yom Kippur – No public school
  • Senior forum on housing needs (10:30 am – 11:30 am) @ The Southborough Senior Center, 9 Cordaville Road: SHOPC (Southborough Housing Opportunity Partnership Committee) is holding a public forum to find out from Southborough seniors what their housing needs are. This will be an interactive forum with group discussions & a power point presentation from Housing Consultant Jennifer Goldson. Lunch included at no charge. Sign up by calling (508) 229-4453 or stopping by the front desk at the senior center.

  • Divorce seminar (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Route 9 Legal Center, 304 Turnpike Road: The Massachusetts Family Law Group is offering free Divorce Seminar 2015 workshops to share important information and tips about the divorce process, including child support and custody, alimony, division of property. During the seminars, experienced attorneys from the Massachusetts Family Law Group will explain: 1.) The three steps you must take right away to protect yourself and your family 2.) What to expect – legally and financially – during the divorce process 3.) The biggest mistakes people make in divorce and custody proceedings Participants will receive a packet of worksheets, checklists and other valuable information – at no cost, and without obligation.   • Baby and Toddler Story Time (11:00 am – 11:30 am) @ : This story time is for children age 0-2 years and their parents or caregivers. Each session will include puppets, stories, and music. Drop-in, no registration required. This program takes place most weeks throughout the school year, except for holidays and school breaks.
  • Teen Crafternoon: Printmaking (6:00 – 7:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Main level: Join us for an evening with Terry Monteith who will teach us about Printmaking.You will get a chance to make your own. She will also be available to answer questions about her craft process. Limited materials available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No registration required. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Southborough Cultural Arts Council, a local agency which is supported the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.   • Neary’s school picture day
  • Southborough Library temporarily closed (10:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ : The library will be closed that morning for building maintenance.
  • The Dull Men’s Club (11:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Any man who enjoys a good cup of coffee, a donut and lively conversation is welcome to come and hang-out with this very friendly group of ordinary guys at any of the weekly gatherings. The Dull Men’s Club is a place where dull men share thoughts and experiences, free from gliz and glam, free from pressures to be in and trendy — free instead to enjoy simple, ordinary things.
  • Bingo (12:30 – 12:30 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Come join Frank and Jan for an afternoon of Bingo, fun, prizes and of course Frank’s jokes. Bingo will start promptly at 12:30. The room will be open at noon if you would like to bring and enjoy your lunch before numbers are called. Please call the front desk if you would like to attend ‐ (508) 229‐4453
  • Finn Fall Festival (5:30 – 7:30 pm) @ Mary Finn School: This is a fun-filled family event. Students have a great time and it is a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends. The funds raised during the event help SOS to provide field trips, programs, and assemblies for Finn students. Carnival-style games, face painting, crafts, and a bake sale. Tickets are $7 per person (capped at $25 per family), and include a slice of pizza and a drink. There is also a fundraising raffle.   • NSPAC Welcome Back Night (6:30 – 8:00 pm) @ Algonquin High School library: Is your child struggling with academic, social, behavioral, physical or medical chalenges? If so, do you feel your child is getting the support he/she needs? Are you interested in finding out about special education in our district? Please join the Northborough/Southborough Special Education Parent Advisory Council (NSPAC) Come out, connect with old friends, and make some new ones. We are a group of supportive parents who have “been there.” Help us plan for the year and learn how we provide information and support for families. As always, your ideas and suggestions are welcome.   • Saturdays at Fay – Mike the Bubble Man (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Fay School’s Primary School at 25 Middle Road: Mike the Bubble Man combines science and magic in his show all about bubbles! Through music, choreography, and comedy bubbles come alive, sparking imagination and wonder. Space is limited so please visit fayschool.org/saturdays to register for this event.
