Recent fires: Limited damage in Southborough, heavy damages in Westborough

Local media covered two recent fires fought by the Southborough Fire Department.

According to Southborough Wicked Local, firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire at 16 Richards Road on Tuesday evening:

“It was relatively small in nature” and led to only “isolated” damage, [Capt. Mark ] Sadowski said of the electrical fire on the second floor.

The SFD was assisted and/or the Town was covered by Westborough, Framingham and Marlborough. The family got out of the fire safely, and there were no injuries. (You can read more on the story here.)

One week prior, the SFD helped in Westborough with a 2-alarm house fire that caused more heavy damage.

Residents here also got out safely. But this blaze did result in an injury:

One firefighter with minor injuries was brought to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and later released. . .

Purcell said flames were showing on the first floor and spreading to the second as firefighters arrived.

“It took 40 minutes to get under control,” the chief said. Firefighters returned to quarters around midnight.

Purcell said the age of the structure presented several challenges, including void spaces which allow a fire to spread more quickly. Purcell estimated about $250,000 in heavy fire and structural damage.
