Post-season sports: Boys Tennis to district Finals; Girls Golf to States; Boys Volleyball out

Boys Tennis dominated Shrewsbury 5-0 in yesterday’s Semi-Finals. They head to their district Finals at St. John’s this Thursday, June 7 at 3:00 pm. They’ll be facing second seed Westborough.

Both teams entered the tourney with a 15-2 record. Gonk’s only losses were the first game of the season and a match against Southern district’s top seed Wellesly. Meanwhile, Westborough’s only losses this season were to Algonquin.

Still, records don’t mean everything. After all, Gonk Boys Volleyball was undefeated going into their Semi-Finals this week. Their fourth competitor, Leominster, also had only two losses that season – both to Algonquin.

That changed in last night’s home game heartbreaker, with a 3-2 loss. You can read about that in the Telegram.

6th seed Girls Lacrosse was set to face 2nd seed Longmeadow in their semi-finals tonight. Not surprisingly, that’s been postponed. The match is rescheduled to tomorrow, Wednesday, June 7th at 5:00 pm.

Last week, the Girls Golf team came in third for the district tournament, qualifying to compete at States, originally scheduled for yesterday.* Weather pushed that out to Wednesday, June 14th at the Heritage Country Club in Charlton with an 8:30 shotgun start.

*MIAA had listed the “Westboro” team as scheduled to play last weekend, with no mention of Algonquin. I finally got confirmation today that the team is a co-op of Westborough and Algonquin players.
