Post-season sports: Boys Tennis and Girls Lacrosse out; athletes vying for State/NE titles

Boys Tennis made it to their district Finals last night. But that’s where their journey ended. Westborough took them down in yesterday’s competition, 3-2.

The evening was rife with drama, as two long time friendly competitors faced off. It started off as an evenly matched battle until Algonquin’s Ian Kim began suffering from leg cramps. Click here for the Telegram’s coverage.

Girls Lacrosse was clearly outmatched by upperseed Longmeadow in their semi-finals last night. They lost 14-4.

That leaves only two teams and some individual athletes in the tournaments. All are competing at the state level or higher. As I previously posted. . .

Girls Rugby finally gets a shot at their Finals this Saturday, June 10th, 4:30 pm at Endicott College. I originally assumed the “bracket” was for district competition (which is also how the school’s athletics schedule is listing it).

But MIAA lists the same time and place for their “inaugural State Finals”. The Girls will compete against the only other team listed in the only division tournament, top seed Belmont. With no district distinctions, I guess it’s both the district and state championship by default.

Three members of the Outdoor Track team are also scheduled to compete in this Saturday. They are taking part in the New England Regionals at Norwell High School. Those are pole vaulters RaiAnn Bu and John Robbins, plus 400 meter dash runner Everett Pirtle.

Westboro/Algonquin Girls Golf will compete at States next Wednesday, June 14th at the Heritage Country Club in Charlton with an 8:30 shotgun start.

On June 17th, Two boys head to the State tournament for Individual Tennis Players (with rain date of the 18th). Riyan Farhat and Christian Jorgensen will play in the Boys Double semis at 10:30 am at St. John’s in Shrewsbury. If they win, they’ll play in the finals there that afternoon.
