Events this Week: Senior Shred Day, Neary Literacy Night, ARHS art & song, and Halloween fun

  • Senior Shred Day (1:00 – 4:00 pm) @ 9 Cordaville Road parking lot: E. L. Harvey and Sons, Inc will be coming to the senior center parking lot to give us the opportunity to shred all those unwanted household papers & documents you have hanging around. Pull in the parking lot and there will be an area that will be dedicated and sectioned off with cones. Your papers can contain staples.
  • Neary Family Literacy Night (6:00 – 7:00 pm) @ Neary School: SOS fundraiser focusing on family literacy activities and includes book fair. See dedicated post for details.

  • Adult Coloring (Senior Center program) (1:00 – 2:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Come enjoy a stress free activity that relaxes the brain and allows your mind to get the rest it needs. Adult Coloring Books will make your life a whole lot brighter. Supplies will be provided by the Senior Center (feel free to bring your own).

  • Brunch and Things that Go Bump in the Night (10:30 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: (Participation is limited. To check if there is still room, call 508-229-4453.) The center is bringing in a “historical interpreter” to entertain over an October brunch. The flyer pitches it as spooky fun. For more details, see dedicated post.
  • “abandoned, lost & forgotten” Art Exhibit (5:30 – 7:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School, Northborough, “Boroughs Gallery”: The new Business of Art Thru Gallery Management class is hosting a reception for the opening of its first show, themed “abandoned, lost & forgotten.” For more details, see dedicated post.
  • Tales & Tails (6:15 – 7:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Meeting Room: Children can spend some time reading to a dog. Children must have some reading ability. Registration is required.   • ARHS’ Fall Choral Concert (7:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School, Northborough, ARHS auditorium: The curricular students will present World music from South Africa, Japan, Spain, Eastern Europe and Nigeria. The concert also features three after-school groups singing pop tunes that they’ve arranged and prepared. For more details, see dedicated post.

  • Trick or Treating @ the Library (10:30 am – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: Celebrate Halloween early! Children can wear their costumes and take part in crafts, games, and trick or treating!
  • Bingo (Senior Center program) (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Come join Michael Gagliardi from “Around the Clock”for an afternoon of Bingo, fun, prizes and of course, jokes. Bingo will start promptly at noon. You can purchase a pre-Bingo lunch for $3 (let them know at sign up if you plan to use that option.) That begins at 11:15 am. Or join them with your own lunch. Please sign up through the Senior Center at (508) 229‐4453.
  • SYFS Town Halloween party (5:00 – 7:00 pm) @ Finn School Cafeterial: Southborough Youth and Family Services’ annual party for kids under 12 and their families. Halloween fun includes arts & crafts, face painting, prizes, games, and treats. Costumes encouraged. Adults must accompany kids. For more details, see dedicated post.

  • Fay School Halloween Farmers Market (10:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ Harlow Circle in front of Fay’s Primary School, 25 Middle Rd: Fay School’s final Farmer’s Market this fall is featuring a Halloween celebration. The market will have a special Halloween theme with crafts and a costume parade for children and pets. The parade will take place at 11:30 am, and crafts will be available throughout the duration of the market. Come dressed in your best costume, enjoy treats from local vendors, and get some shopping done. For details, visit: farmersmarket.fayschool.org
  • Trick or Treating @ the Library (10:30 am – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: Celebrate Halloween early! Children can wear their costumes and take part in crafts, games, and trick or treating!
  • SOLF Presents: Birds of Prey (2:00 – 3:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Main Floor: Join us at the library for a demonstration with live birds! “Scan the skies of Western Massachusetts on any given hour of the day and there’s a better than even chance you’ll some of the majestic birds of prey that call the Pioneer Valley home.” Sponsored by the Southborough Open Land Foundation. For more details, see dedicated post.

  • SFA Halloween Parade (4:00 pm): The Southborough Firefighter’s Association’s annual Halloween costume contest and parade. The line-up is across from Mauro’s Market, downtown Main Street, with the parade starting at 4:00 pm. (Marchers usually begin convening around 3:30pm.) Kids can collect treats inside the Fire Station at the end while they pass in front of a panel of judges. Trophies are given out for the most creative costume, scariest, and cutest costume. And of course there’s the coveted Captain’s prize.
