Police charging 18 year old for holding underage drinking party

Southborough Police have issued a press release about a another underage drinking party that ended in formal charges. This time around, it’s a teenager who will have to appear in court.

The police are accusing an 18 year old of “furnishing alcohol to a minor” as well as possessing alcohol. Charges stem from a New Year’s Eve party that allegedly included teens aged 14-19:

On, December 31, 2017, at 9:44 p.m., Southborough Officers responded to an address on Sears Road for a report of a possible underage drinking party. They were assisted by the Marlborough Police.

Upon arrival, Officers observed a large group estimated to be well over fifty in the driveway and basement of the home. Many began to exit through the rear basement door. All appeared to be under the age of twenty-one. A large amount of alcohol was observed throughout the basement. Contact was made with [the 18 year old resident], who was in charge of the premises. All subjects over age eighteen were subject to Field Sobriety Testing before being allowed to leave. All juveniles were released to a parent or guardian. In all, thirty-six individuals were detained ranging in age from fourteen to nineteen. They were from twelve area Town’s. The Department is finalizing formal notification to parents, and school districts of the individuals involved.

[The accused] is being charged with Ch. 138 Sec. 34, Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor, and Ch. 138 Sec. 34 C, Minor in Possession of Alcohol. He will be summonsed into Westborough District Court at a later date.

Mark my words, these parents of Sears Road will get the spoiled little kids of Southborough a lawyer and threaten the police, who are doing their job — thank you police force. I saw it with both my kids classmates at Algonquin over the past 5-10 years time and again. I actually viewed one set of parents in the Westborough Court pleading for leniency for their daughter public indecency and drunkenness. I am sure she is somewhere else now causing trouble. And unfortunately it worked. Both parents are lawyers, unfortunate. And Unfortunately for us, we the citizens, these are your mindless wonder kids and parents today who have and are entering the work force — God help us all. I am not being self righteous, can happen to all of us, mine as well, but when you get your kids off of punishment that is due because you are worried about their future, what people will think, or the school they will get into, you are doing all of us a disservice.

You’re just mad that your daughter was at that party, that’s doesn’t give you the right to go online and insult your daughters 17 year old friends and their families.

I don’t know if you were able to read my post completely but my kids at the time were not there. The injustice that I spoke of is the parents of the kids not allowing the kids to get to do punishment due them so that they grow as decent human beings.

So you’re the kind of father that would let them be abused in jail to teach them a lesson. Nice. I bet you also still think a good old fashioned spanking is beneficial.

The only thing you can be sure of is that each of us (including you) made at least one really stupid decision as a kid or young adult which, if it had gone another way, could have ruined our lives (e.g., driving drunk, drinking under age, drug use, etc.). Those of us who are still around learned from those indiscretions, and hopefully the young folks involved with the party will too (with the love and support of their parents).

I haven’t read the word “culpability”. Punishment is painful, but that is it’s purpose. We have all paid in one way or another for our transgressions. If not, where is the lesson. Own it and grow.
