I have news to share from and about the Southborough Police Department. In contrast to last week, most of it is feel-good.
The SPD shared kudos to Officer Steven Neivert who saved the life of an apparent overdose victim in Framingham last week. They also asked me advertise their job posting for a new full time police officer.
Plus, the Southborough Senior Center asked me to share their call to support officers by contributing to a special basket. And a parent shared the lighter side of the increased police visibility at Southborough schools last week.
Finally, I’ve rounded up the latest batch of logs from the SPD Facebook page (over two weeks worth).
Life Saver:
On, June 2, 2018, at approximately 0043 hours, Patrolman Steven Neivert was on patrol on Turnpike Road in Southborough. As he crossed over the line into Framingham, Officer Neivert noticed a vehicle parked at the Safeway Gas Station located at 1701 Worcester Road. The station was closed at the time, so he stopped to check on the status of the car.
Officer Neivert observed a male slumped in the driver’s seat who was unresponsive. The male’s breathing was extremely weak, and he was bleeding from the nose while covered in sweat. Officer Neivert administered two doses of Narcan for a possible overdose, and assisted the victim with his breathing using an Ambu Mask. Backup Southborough units including Patrolman John Officer and Sergeant Sean McCarthy assisted until Framingham Police and Fire arrived on scene. The male began to recover, and was transported by AMR Medics. A white powdery substance residue and a straw were located in the center console of the vehicle.Officer Neivert will be nominated to receive the department Life Saving Award. He has also been commended by the Framingham Police Command Staff for his efforts.
New job posting for full-time officer:
The Town of Southborough is currently accepting applications for position of full-time police officer. Applications can be picked up in person at the Southborough Police Dept., 19 Main Street, Southborough, MA. or downloaded from www.southboroughpd.com. Application deadline is Monday, June 25, 2018 at 4:00pm. All applications can be sent certified, registered mail or delivered in person in sealed envelopes to Chief of Police Kenneth Paulhus. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: be a U.S. citizen; a high school graduate (college degree preferred); must be at least 21 years of age; have a valid driver’s license. Senior Center Volunteer Project to support SPD
Volunteers from the Senior Center are putting together a snack basket for the Southborough Police Department to show our appreciation.
This basket will allow them to grab a snack as they go out in their cruisers day or night.
If you would like to contribute we will be collecting: Individually wrapped packages of cookies, nuts, gum, crackers, granola bars, energy bars, and candy. Things that they can grab and go. Please leave contributions at the front desk of the Senior Center or in the box in the kitchen. ([The program is] being coordinated by volunteer Sue Acampora)

Apparently, Friday (one of the days when police increased visibility at Southborough Schools) was Finn School’s Field Day. Officer Aaron Richardson cracked the kids (and adults) up by taking a turn on the hippity hop! (Click thumbnail right for a better view.)
