Last week wasn’t as stellar for Algonquin sports as the prior week of the season, especially for the Boys. THawk wins were mixed with losses and ties.
Technically, Gonk Girls varsity sports are still undefeated. Volleyball, Girls Soccer and Field Hockey each have 2-0-1 records. (The Harbinger and Metrowest Daily News both covered the drama of Volleyball’s “nail-biting” home opener win on Friday. The Telegram skimmed the highlights plus a Field Hockey tie here.) Plus, in its first official meet of the season, Girls Cross Country beat Wachusett.
In contrast, Boys Cross Country lost its meet to Wachusett and Boys Soccer lost to Tantasqua on Saturday. Soccer did earn a win earlier in the week over Shrewsbury. (You can see telegram’s pics here.) But they followed it up on Saturday with a loss to Tantasqua.
Football took a blow on Friday night, shut out by Marlborough Panthers 28-0. (You can read about that in the telegram and Metrowest Daily News.) They’ll hope to do better at their Homecoming game this Friday vs. Wachusett Regional.
