See the Public Safety Building Committee Agenda of 8-19-19 on the Town Calendar. Stop and be aware that your town officials are planning the opening ceremony of the Public Safety Building on 9/11.
Does anyone feel the 9/11 pain of this tragedy? This was one of the darkest days in American history and one of enormous personal loss for many, which is re-lived every year on that day. This is not a day to have an opening celebration or a day to be celebrating anything.
The insensitivity and inappropriateness of capitalizing on that massive tragedy (personal for many) is simply wrong and unbelievable. This is a sacrilege and completely inappropriate. Out of respect for the victims and their families and all of those who have personal links to that loss, the date should be changed immediately. Board of Selectmen: Where is your leadership and common sense when we need you? Please change the date.
I felt this way when the field in Acre Bridge Rd was named. The date of 9/11 is a day of morning. It is not a day for joyous or recreational occasions. The names of the victims belong to the families of those victims and should not be posted on the side of a field where cheering occurs.
I am in agreement, the opening date should be changed.
Agreed, this is a bit tin eared. Perhaps the thought was to honor the firefighers and Police officers that lost their lives that day but a lot of other people died as well and perhaps we should be thinking of them as well.
