Drunk Driving, hit & run suspect captured after K-9 pursuit, failed to show for hearing

Southborough Police issued a press release today. In it, they share that a warrant has been issued for a man who failed to show for his hearing on charges of drunk driving with a suspended licence and leaving the scene of personal injury:

On, 9/7/2019, at 10:18 p.m., Southborough Police Officers responded to the area of 76 Turnpike Road for a multiple vehicle crash. Five cars were found to be involved. The operator of a 1996 Subaru Legacy involved in the crash (later identified as Brian Gernrich, age 50, of East Brookfield) fled the scene on foot, leaving his injured passenger in the vehicle (non-life-threatening injury).

Responding Officers called for K9 assistance from Marlborough P.D. Sergeant Ken McKenzie responded with his partner, Kaiser. Mr. Gernrich was tracked and located by Kaiser; hiding in the area of 15 Oak Hill Road. He was taken into custody by Patrolman John Officer, and transported to UMASS Worcester for treatment by Southborough Rescue.

As a result of an investigation on scene, and observations at the time of arrest, Mr. Gernrich was charged with the following: 1. O.U.I Liquor 2. Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3. Driving on Revoked License 4. Speeding 5. Leaving the Scene Personal Injury 6. Leaving the Scene Property Damage 7. Marked Lanes Violation. Mr. Gernrich has an extensive history of charges involving motor vehicles, including a previous O.U.I. and 28 prior incidents of driving while Revoked or Suspended.

He was released on Bail to appear in Westborough District Court, where he failed to show for his hearing on September 9th. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Wow. Gernrich didn’t show up for his hearing. What a surprise. Why, was this fine human being released on bail to begin with, with his history. Are you kidding. So now police have to track down this cretin, when he could have been enjoying all the comforts of jail.

Honestly what does Mr. Gernrich have to do before a judge in MA does the right thing – kill multiple people in a car – we’ve been down this path so many times. One of these days we’ll be holding politicians responsible for how the justice system works……and the T ……… and the school system…………I like dreaming.
