13th annual Gobble Wobble: Start trotting and get ready to support Friends of Southborough Recreation

It’s not even Halloween yet. But Friends of Southborough Recreation are ready to talk turkey.

(I know. This event always brings out the corny punster in me.)

Since the Gobble Wobble always takes place on Thanksgiving, it would be silly to tell you to “save the date”. But, for those of you who like to get in shape for the 5K, I like to share a friendly reminder around this time that it’s coming upon us.

[Editor’s Note: Reminder, another 5k and fun run is coming up in Town even sooner. Run for SHIFSTRONG takes place on November 2nd.]

13 years ago, Friends of Southborough Recreation launched the annual Gobble Wobble to raise funds. Now, most years* over 1,000 locals flock to run the 5K or strut their stuff through the 2 mile walk. And many kids whoop their way through the free Fun Run.

The Friends are asking me to share their message about the importance of supporting their big annual fundraiser:

Did you know that the Southborough Recreation provides over 2,000 residents almost 650 programs and activities each year? These programs include affordable quality afterschool classes ranging from karate to STEM activities, flexible summer camp programs, athletics such as swimming, skiing, yoga and use of fields.

The benefits of bringing a community together around health and well-being opportunities are clear. For over ten years Friends of Southborough Recreation (FOSR), a 501c3 nonprofit, has proudly collaborated with business and community leaders to raise funds that promote and support Southborough Recreation in order to improve health, togetherness, and community spirit through recreational activities and facilities for all ages.

To that end, Friends of Southborough Recreation (FOSR) (https://www.friendsofsboro.com/) is gearing up for its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Gobble Wobble. The 13th annual Gobble Wobble is a 5K certified race, two-mile walk and Kids’ Fun Run on Thanksgiving morning, [Nov. 28], at the P. Brent Trottier Middle School, 49 Parkerville Road.
Profits will also go toward scholarships and program support to continue our commitment of ensuring all residents have access to quality programs that help build healthy lives.

And a big thank you to our 13th Annual Gobble Wobble Sponsors: Brendon Homes, Global Printing & Packaging, St. Marks School, Wegmans, Ken’s Foods, Reliant Medical Group, Table Talk Pies, Middlesex Savings Bank, Marilyn Green & Co Realtors/Remax, Fay School, Trombetta Farms, Arrow Fence Co., Mooyah, and Sheri Beran Design

Now, here are more details on the actual event.

The Registration is at 7:00 am on Thanksgiving morning** with the 5K run and 2K walk starting at 8:30 am. Babysitting will be available onsite again this year with a $5 requested donation. (Though, you can usually find babies in backpacks or kids in jogging strollers in the race.)

The kids fun run kicks off at 9:00 am.

*The Gobble Wobble typically has over 1,000 runners. Occasionally, inclement weather thins the crowd.

**As usual, pre-reg pickup is also available the day before from 2:00 pm – 7:30 pm at the Trottier Middle School Gym.

Updated (10/3/19 7:50 am): The Friends’ message initially contained the wrong date.

Beth, of note, the Gobble Wobble is on the 28th which is Thanksgiving this year, not the 22nd. Thanks!
