Events this week: Sunset Playdates, Practicing Ayurveda, Raya & The Last Dragon, Magic Show, and more (Updated)

Monday, August 16, 2021

  • Lifecycle of Seeds Workshop (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ zoom: This workshop is part of the Southborough Library’s “Dig In! Garden Information Series”. Blackstone Valley Veggie Gardens will hold a special zoom session on gardening topics twice monthly. Anyone 12 or older can pre-register through Southborough Recreation. This session’s topic is: Lifecycle of Seeds – All about sowing, harvesting and storing seeds. Presentation deals with all types of seed starting as well as which seeds to harvest and how to store them to add to your sustainable life. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Strength Training Class for seniors (9:00 – 9:45 am) @ zoom: For details on semi-weekly class, see newsletter.
  • Junior Farmer for a Day (9:00 am – 3:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For grades K-5. Children will encounter farm animals, learn about farm-fresh food, hike the trails, create natural crafts, and explore the farm and its surroundings from the eyes of its most important team member: the farmer! Each session will have a different theme. Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Tuesday Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Need help with technology? Staff and teen volunteers will make every effort to assist you. Bring questions about ebooks and electronic resources. This is a drop in event; no registrations necessary. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Read to a Dog (5:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Lawn: Children preferably ages 5 and up with some reading ability will read to a certified therapy dog. The event is limited and requires pre-registration. In case of inclement weather, this will be held over zoom. For details on this bi-weekly program, see dedicated post.
  • Sunset Playdates (6:30 – 7:30 pm) @ Fay School’s Primary School playground: Enjoy live music by local children’s musicians and an after-dinner popsicle! Featuring Mr. Kim from Apple Tree Arts This is the last in their free monthly summer series. For children 8 and under accompanied by parents. It is free to attend, but registration is required. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 

  • Middle School Farm Wednesdays (9:00 am – 3:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For kids entering grades 6-8. Middle schoolers will get to know the farmland, animals, and surrounding trails. A typical day will include hiking and nature exploration, rapport-building games, and creative time for art and journaling. Each day we will focus in on a different topic.   • Stretch Break Class for seniors (10:15 – 11:00 am) @ zoom: For details on semi-weekly class0, see newsletter.
  • Outdoor Story Time (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library’s back lawn: Join Miss Kim on the lawn (weather permitting) for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. Please bring a blanket or chair.
  • Magical Miniature Gnome Home Hike and Workshop (4:00 – 5:30 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For ages 8 through adults, Adult supervision is required. Join us to build a special home for some magical woodland creatures. We’ll go on a hike to collect natural materials then each child can create their own fairy or gnome home.  Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Wellness Series: Practicing Ayurveda (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ zoom: The free Wellness Series workshop is offered through a partnership between the Southborough Library and Jill Vroman Fitness & Wellness. This session’s topic: Talk with Heather Small, from Metta Wellness, about practicing Ayurvedic and how to keep up your routine while traveling. The calls with Heather will be 30-40 minutes only, and are less presentations and more informal chats. The session is available to ages 12+, but pre-registration is required.   • Southborough Summer Movie Series (dusk) @ Depietri Field, 53 Parkerville Road: Free family friendly movies on the field in front of Neary School’s parking lot. Movies begin at dusk. Tonight’s feature: Raya & The Last Dragon. Sponsored by the Southborough Community Fund and Friends of Southborough Recreation. Uhlmann’s Ice Cream Truck will be onsite. No registration necessary. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library. [The show is rescheduled to August 25th at 4:00 pm.]

  • Preschool Farm Explorer Fridays (9:30 – 10:30 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Pre-registration (and fee) required. For ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old, Adult supervision required (discount for younger siblings and siblings under 1 yr old can attend for free) Your little farm explorers will become fully immersed in what life is like here at Chestnut Hill. Each session will have a different theme. Activities may include brushing goats, planting seeds, and other age-appropriate hands-on farm “chores,” as well as art projects and stories.   • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Weekly, casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • All About Goats (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Pre-registration (and fee) required. Get up close and personal with the goats of Chestnut Hill Farm! We will have a hands-on learning experience with our goats including fun goat facts, what goats eat, how to care for them, and more. Children will be able to brush and/or feed the goats – grownups, don’t forget your cameras! Closed-toe shoes are recommended. For details, see dedicated post.
