Pushing yourself while pushing a cause – October 11th fundraisers

On Saturday, October 11, two great fundraisers are taking place with Southborough connections. One will run through town. The other is run by town residents.

Both events ask participants to push themselves athletically, have fun, and raise awareness for important causes.

Holliston CF Cycle for Life

This annual fundraiser is in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Participants will be passing through Southborough as part of the picturesque and scenic terrain.

OK, passing through might be stretching it a bit.

Riders can choose from three routes that begin and end in Holliston: 12 miles, 30 miles, and 65 miles. Those that are in it for the long haul will briefly pass through Southborough via Southville Road.

Wicked Mud Run III

This event focuses more on the fun than the funds. But 10% of net event proceeds (plus 100% of raffle proceeds) are donated to: Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, Autism Speaks, and Big Nick’s Ride for the Fallen.

Runners get down in dirty in this muddy ostacle course. (If you’re thinking about joining them, looks like this week’s weather is giving you a chance to practice. I’m sure you can find some mud out there.)

Adding to the fun, the organizers also encourage costumes:

Wicked Mud Run III is a Race Menu timed 5K obstacle course race at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury, MA.

Run on your own or with a group. Trophy for top Male/Female.

Run in Costume. Prize for best costume.

Band, Beverages, great sponsors and more.

As you can tell from the name, this is the third running of this event. It was founded by residents Dan O’Rourke and Ray Thompson. Thompson previously shared on the blog, “The idea for the race came from Dan and I wanting to create a cool fun race that is safe while also creating a company that gives back to the community.”
