Benchmark Deli closing over dispute with landlord

Here’s one I’m really sad about. The Benchmark Deli in the mint green building on Framingham Road (map) will close for good on Saturday over disputes with their landlord.
I heard the rumor this weekend, and today the Metrowest Daily News confirms it’s true.

EMC to hold memorial service for cofounder on Thursday

By now you’ve surely heard the news that EMC cofounder and billionaire entrepreneur Richard Egan died last Friday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Egan had been diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer earlier this year.
A public visitation and memorial service for Egan will be held on Thursday at EMC’s Southborough facility at 21 Coslin

Red Barn gets a jolt from the federal government

Hopkinton-based Red Barn Coffee Roasters got a $250,000 loan thanks to stimulus funds from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Owner Mark Verrochi told the Boston Globe he’ll use the money to purchase a much bigger coffee roaster, one that will let him increase his operation tenfold.

In the media: Genzyme snaps up parcel in Framingham/Southborough

The Metrowest Daily News reports biotech company Genzyme purchased a 1-acre parcel of land at 251 Boston Road (map) for $1.8M. The company recently has been expanding in the technology/industrial park in that area of town, but says it has no immediate plans for the Boston Road property.

New business hopes to replace Country Gourmet

The Metrowest Daily News has the latest on the future of the Country Gourmet. Property owners, and former Capasso Farms proprietors, John and Liz Sherry told selectmen on Tuesday night that the Country Gourmet’s lease was terminated last fall.

Southborough’s unemployment rate continues to rise

Southborough’s unemployment rate increased from 5.1% in April to 5.8% in May according to numbers released recently by the state.
Even so, unemployment in Southborough is still well below state and national levels. The unemployment rate in Massachusetts in May was 8.0%. Nationally it was 9.1%.

Future of the Country Gourmet remains uncertain

Selectmen last month approved the transfer of the liquor license from the Country Gourmet on Framingham Road to Shohdy Ziada who owns Turnpike Liquors on Route 9.
Ziada told selectmen he was going to establish a convenience store on the property, but apparently those plans are still up in the air.

Where buffalo once roamed, a convenience store

Country Gourmet may be changing ownership

It appears the Country Gourmet on Framingham Road may be changing hands and changing names.
According to a public notice, the owners of the Country Gourmet have applied to transfer their liquor license to a new owner. And not just any new owner, but Shohdy Ziada, proprietor of Turnpike Liquors on Route 9.

Southborough salon hosts charity fashion show

Southborough’s Salon Entre Nous will host their second annual charity fashion show, “Fashion With A Voice,” on Thursday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hopkinton Country Club (map). All proceeds benefit Voices Against Violence, a nonprofit organization in Framingham that provides free services to victims of domestic abuse.
