Is a pizza place a restaurant? You might think that’s an easy question to answer, but when it comes to zoning regulations, there’s room for interpretation. The Zoning Board of Appeals will have to figure out the answer on that question and more as they consider whether the new Pizza 19 should be allowed to continue to operate.

Pizza 19 wasn’t the only local business before the Board of Selectmen last night. Colony Market was also there. But while Pizza 19 had their license granted, Colony Market had theirs revoked after selectmen determined the owner lied on his application for a liquor license renewal.

Pizza 19 owner Pedro Franco told selectmen last night he hopes to open his new pizza shop at 150 Framingham Road later this week. That may make pizza lovers in town happy, but it doesn’t please some of the residents who live nearby.

After just over a year in business, Niva, a women’s clothing boutique in the Town Center Plaza, will be closing up shop. Owner Victoria Plotnik said she decided to close the store because the location just wasn’t working out.

Vickery Road property. But in a letter to the ZBA, the family asked for more time to prepare their site plan.

Southborough’s unemployment rate for May held steady at 6.7%, and the state rate remained unchanged at 9.1%. The national rate ticked down a fraction from 9.5% in April to 9.3% in May.
