How would you like an art gallery in downtown Southborough? What about a playhouse? Or more restaurants and shops? The Zoning Advisory Committee (ZAC) believes enabling that type of development downtown — as well as in Southborough’s other three villages — is key to reinvigorating the village district. But some downtown residents feel the specific zoning changes proposed by the ZAC will threaten the historic character of the village districts, and they plan to share their concerns at a public hearing on the matter tomorrow night.

Tucked away at the end of Valley Road ?, Stonybrook Golf Course has been in operation for somewhere around 40 years. For the last decade it’s been owned and operated by Kevin Sullivan. But Sullivan told the Planning Board last week that the business is faltering and he wants to close up shop.

It took a whole lot of meetings, debate, public forums, and research to come up with Southborough’s Master Plan which was finalized in 2008. All that hard work was recently recognized with an award from the American Planning Association.

Development planned at Murphy sisters’ crash site

If you’ve driven down Northboro Road recently, you’ve probably noticed that trees on the south side of the road have been cleared, including those surrounding the site of the fatal Murphy sisters’ car accident.

Help shape the future of Main Street

The town has held a number of public meetings to share information about and get feedback on the reconstruction of Main Street, and the next in the series will be on Thursday night.
The town’s first design was rejected by Mass Highway earlier this year. Since then, the town and project engineers Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc.

On the warrant: Burying utilities lines on Main Street

At some point in the next few years, Main Street in Southborough will be torn up to make a host of roadway improvements. When that work happens, a group in town would also like to see the utility lines along Main Street buried to improve the overall aesthetics of the downtown area.

Regional planners suggest improvements to I-495

Construction underway on new Fay School complex

Fay School has started construction on their new primary school complex off Middle Road. The buildings, designed to have the look and feel of a New England village, will house Fay’s new kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes.
