If you’ve driven around the Flagg Road area lately, you’re sure to notice some big stumps along the side of the roads – the remnants of some 38 trees cut down by National Grid in January.

A portion of Southville Road to get a new sidewalk

If all goes according to plan, the north side of Southville Road from Liberty Drive to about 200 feet before the Ashland town line — by the parking lot of the Rose Garden restaurant — will get a new sidewalk later this year.

Still no resolution on Marlboro Road water issue

The DPW came to last night’s Board of Selectmen meeting prepared to present findings on the source of water that flows from Stephen Stanechewski’s property at 126 Marlboro Road out onto the roadway. Public officials say the water freezes on the road creating an unsafe condition for motorists.

Last week the state handed out $5.5 million to communities affected by last December’s massive ice storm. Southborough came through the storm relatively unscathed, so you probably won’t be shocked to hear we didn’t get a very big piece of the reimbursement pie.

Power out to some Framingham Road homes

A My Southborough reader (thanks, Alfredo!) alerted me that as of 1:00 pm today, a handful of residents on Framingham were without power. Service is expected to be restored around 4:00 pm today. No word on what caused the outage, but it has been pretty darn windy out there today.

National Grid plans tree removal

There will be a public hearing on Thursday to review National Grid’s application to cut down 38 trees and prune another 3 because they’re threatening main power lines. The trees are located on these roads:

Lynnbrook Road – 1 removal
Lovers Lane – 22 removals, 3 trims
Flagg Road – 10 removals
Deerfoot Road – 5 removals

Newton Street closed again today

For the second time in as many weeks, a portion of Newton Street north of Southboro Medical is closed for road work. DPW head Karen Galligan said today’s closure is for drainage work. The closure last week was to to tap an existing water main and install a fire hydrant.
