Change to tonight’s Board of Selectmen agenda

For those of you planning on attending tonight’s Board of Selectmen meeting, note there’s been a scheduling change. The executive session originally scheduled to run from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm has been canceled. The open meeting will now start at 6:00 pm and all agenda items will shift up by two hours.

I just got word that tonight’s Board of Selectmen meeting has been canceled due to the weather. Selectmen are scheduled to meet next on Thursday to talk budgets. That meeting starts at 6:00 pm in the Town House Hearing Room (second floor).

Selectmen talk non-profits, other fiscal issues with state legislators

Like they did last year around this time, Southborough’s state legislators — Senator Jamie Eldridge and Representatives Carolyn Dykema (Southborough Precincts 2 and 3), and Danielle Gregoire (Southborough Precinct 1) — came before the Board of Selectmen this week to talk about the fiscal challenges facing the town. One big topic of conversation was taxation of non-profit organizations.

Still no resolution on Marlboro Road water issue

The DPW came to last night’s Board of Selectmen meeting prepared to present findings on the source of water that flows from Stephen Stanechewski’s property at 126 Marlboro Road out onto the roadway. Public officials say the water freezes on the road creating an unsafe condition for motorists.

Selectmen to consider assessment centers tonight

Selectmen have left open the possibility of using an assessment center to help evaluate final candidates for the police chief position. Assessment centers put candidates through a series of job-related simulations, interviews and/or psychological tests. They can help evaluate how a candidate might behave in critical areas of the job.

I wasn’t able to attend Tuesday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, but thanks to the Southborough Cable Access Committee, I’ll be able to catch a broadcast of the meeting later this week. If you’re looking to do the same, here’s the broadcast schedule:
Thursday – 7:00 pm
Friday – 9:00 am and 5:00 pm

Selectment added some new blood to the Municipal Facilities Committee by appointing three new members and nearly doubling the size of the committee to seven. The Municipal Facilities Committee is working on plans for a new police station.

Update on the search for a new police chief

Today is the last day to submit an application to be Southborough’s chief of police. Search committee chairwoman Desiree Aselbekian said she didn’t know offhand how many resumes have been submitted, but she told selectmen that resumes “have been coming in.”
