February is the month for romance. On Saturday, February 11, from 4:30 to 8:30, the Southborough Library will show the classic film Gone with the Wind based on the timeless novel by Margaret Mitchell. Relive the tempestuous romance between Rhett Butler and Scarlet O’Hara as the Civil War rages on around them.

Friends of the Library will provide pizza, popcorn, and soda. The movie starts at 4:30 pm in the meeting room down the hall from the Children’s Room. Call 508.485.5031 or visit the Library to register.

Valentine’s Day comes early at the Southborough Library. On Saturday, join your friends for Valentine-themed cookie decorating, crafts, and games from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. No registration is necessary.

The Southborough Public Library offers book clubs for readers of all ages, and they’re all open to the public. Here’s what the groups are reading this month. Pick up a copy and join the discussion.

Seniors
The Senior Center Book Group will discuss The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe, on Wednesday, February 8, 11:00 am, at the Senior Center.

Young adults
The Young Adult Book Group will discuss Faerie Wars (Faerie Wars Chronicles) by Herbie Brennan and Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett on Wednesday, February 8, 6:30 pm, at the Library. Pizza and soda provided by Southborough Dominos on Route 9.

4th-6th graders
The 4th-6th Grade Book Group will meet to discuss The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester by Barbara O’Connor on Thursday, February 16, 6:30 pm, at the Library. Pizza and soda provided by the Friends of the Library.

2nd-3rd graders
The 2nd & 3rd Grade Book Group will meet on Wednesday, February 29, 6:30 pm, at the Library to talk about How Oliver Olson Changed the World by Claudia Mills.

Adults
The First Wednesday Book Group will discuss The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver on Wednesday, March 7, 10:00 am, at the Library.

Pediatrician and Southborough resident Dr. Safdar Medina will be at the Southborough Library on Tuesday evening to share prevention strategies and natural remedies for childhood infections. The talk is aimed at parents and caregivers. It starts at 7:00 pm. All are welcome, and no registration is required.

Southborough novelists Steve Ulfelder and Ann Port will be at the Southborough Library on Tuesday and Wednesday this week to talk about their books and the publishing life. Here’s more info.

Ann Port of Southborough published her first book, “It’s All in the Title,” last year, and just released her second book, “The Bernini Quest.” Southborough author Steve Ulfelder published “Purgatory Chasm” last year and will release “The Whole Lie” in May. On Tuesday evening, January 24, at 7:00 p.m., both authors will speak at the Southborough Library, 25 Main Street, on the craft of writing and how each got to be published authors.

On Wednesday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m., Ms. Port will return to the library for a talk about her two books, and how the stories and characters were developed. Both talks will interest readers, writers and aspiring writers in the greater Southborough community.

The talks are free and open to the public and there is no registration required. Call the Library at 508-485-5031 for more information.

Love your Legos? Children ages five and up are invited to stop by the Southborough Public Library on Tuesday from 3:45 to 5:00 pm to make Lego creations. The library will have all the Lego building supplies, including idea books.

Southborough historian and author Donna McDaniel has been making the rounds sharing fascinating stories from her recently-published book Southborough Memories. If you haven’t had a chance to hear her talk yet, you have another chance this week. Here are the details.

Southborough’’s own Donna McDaniel will discuss her new book Southborough Memories, at the library on Wednesday evening, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the main reading room. The book is a history of the town of Southborough in the words of long-time Southborough residents. It would interest family historians and local historians alike – and make a great gift!

McDaniel has lived in Southborough for 39 years, and was the first woman elected to the Board of Selectmen. She authors a bi-weekly column Northborough/Southborough Villager.

The talk by Donna McDaniel on Southborough Memories is free and open to the public. No registration required. Call the Library at 508-485-5031 for more information.

Magician Greg McAdams brings his I Love to Read! magic show to the Southborough Library on Saturday, November 19. The entertaining and educational show combines magic, puppetry, storytelling, and audience participation.

On his website, McAdams says the program is “designed to teach children the joys of reading and the adventures that await them in the pages of a book. The goal of this program is to get children excited about reading so reading is not something they have to do but rather something they want to do.”

The show starts at 2:30 pm. No registration is required.
