It was déjà vu for the Algonquin girls gymnastics team this weekend. For the second year in a row, they narrowly missed taking home the South Sectional Championship title. Like last year, they lost to first-place Barnstable by a mere point.

Southborough resident Chris Wraight was at the game earlier this week and sent in this report:
Algonquin Varsity Boys beat Shepherd Hill 75-37 in a vital non-league game.  Senior Graham Turner had 12 points and 13 rebounds. The Tomahawks improved to 8-9, and need to win two out of their final three games

Algonquin girls soccer and tennis teams celebrated

Last month members of the Algonquin girls soccer team were awarded plaques to commemorate their 2009 state championship win. And last week, they were honored by Southborough and Northborough’s state representatives at the state house. Also honored was the Algonquin girls tennis team who won the state championship last June.

Southborough resident Chris Wraight was at the Algonquin boys and girls basketball games against Westborough on Friday. “Girls won an exciting one 38-30, and boys slammed Westboro 62-48,” he reports. And, of course, he took a whole bunch of photos.

The Northborough/Southborough Pop Warner Midget class cheerleaders placed an impressive third in their division at the national championship competition held at Disney World last Friday. It was a close match, with less than one point separating the top three teams in the division.

The Algonquin girls soccer team isn’t the only local team celebrating a championship this week. Both the Northborough-Southborough Pop Warner Midget football team and the Midget cheerleading team made big news this week.
