April is going to be a busy month at the Southborough Library. All month the library will host a poetry festival, featuring poetry readings by a number of local authors, poetry writing workshops, and for the kids, poetry, rhyming, and music events.
Here’s the lineup. All events are free and open to the public.
For adults:
- Wednesday, April 7, 7:00 p.m: Reading and performance by poet Marlon Carey, who brings a youthful approach to poetry.
- Thursdays, April 8, 15 and 22, 3:30 p.m., Poetry Writing workshops for ages 14 and up: Thursday, April 8, Poetry and Image; April 15, Poetry and Music; Poetry and Mystery, April 22, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Come to one or to all three workshops and perfect your poetry writing skill.
- Friday, April 9, 3:30 p.m., “My Favorite Poem” reading – bring your favorite poem, and read it to the group, or have someone read it for you.
- Tuesday, April 13, 7:00 p.m. The Worcester County Poetry Association presents readings by the top three winners of the 2009 Poetry Writing Contest.
- Wednesday, April 21, 4:00 p.m., join the Daughters of the British Empire for a Tea Party event, with readings from the English poets read by these British women. Bring a favorite English poem, and have them read it for you!
Friday, April 23, 3:30 p.m., poetry reading by Anna Catone, Southborough Library’s “Poet in Residence,” also featuring poetry from the Thursday workshops. - On Wednesday, April 28, 7:00 p.m., a poetry reading by Ian Williams, a published poet and English Professor from Fitchburg State College.
In the Children’s Room:
- Saturday events, April 3, Music Together with David Garden.
- Saturday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m., Author Diane Root visits and reads her rhyming book, Solomon Sire and the Fantastic Fib to children.
- Saturday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m., Jennifer and Colin White read from their rhyming book On the Edge with Cool Head Luke.
- Thursday, April 22, 1:00 p.m. a Poetry/Limerick/Tongue Twister Contest – with prizes!
- Saturday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., a Rhyming Alphabet Story Time for toddlers and preschoolers.
Visiting poets are being funded through a grant from the Southborough Local Arts Council. The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments for the Poetry Festival events.
