More details on last night’s Route 9 accident

Around 7:25 pm last night, a vehicle going westbound on Route 9 struck a utility pole at the entrance of 257/259 Turnpike Road (the Deerfoot Office Park). The force of the impact split the pole in two. When the pole fell, it brought down a pole it was connected to on the other side of Route 9. That pole fell on top of a building.

Electric and telephone wires fell across both sides of Route 9 forcing the entire highway to be closed to traffic. The ramps to Route 9 eastbound from Interstate 495 were also closed.

The driver of the car was taken to UMass Memorial University Campus with serious injuries. The Metrowest Daily News reports the man was from Northborough. The article says he was not wearing a seat belt, but his injuries were non-life-threatening.

An eastbound land opened around 11:00 pm, and a westbound one opened around midnight.
