More than 10,000 pounds of goodies collected for troops overseas

Southborough resident Lisa Braccio wrote in with the results of this weekend’s troop drive. Calling the drive “hugely successful,” Lisa said as of Sunday volunteers had packaged up 439 boxes weighing more than 10,000 pounds. The boxes will be shipped to troops in Afghanistan.

Here’s what else she had to say:

Our Community’s continued support is always amazing and we all have so much to be proud of.  These wonderful boxes of “touches and tastes” of home will touch the lives of over 8,000 members of our Military.  What a testament to our Community and its support of our Troops.  This is America at it’s best!!

With the dire circumstances in Afghanistan with most Troops not even having running water, no PX and living on MRE’s on a Mountaintop literally it brings such joy to be able to help and send love to them.  Without those that donated time, items or monies we would not have been able to brighten so many lives before the Holidays.  And the best part is we had almost a thousand cards and letters from Kids and Adults to insert in the boxes along with the laminated fall leaves that the kids spent the time doing and decorating over the weekend.  We had help from all ages ranging from our Daisy Troops, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, High School, Rivers and Fay Kids, Boys and Girls Clubs, everyday people, to a 91 year old World War 2 veteran that was there both days with other Veterans.

Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
