The murder trial of Southborough resident Treefon Manoloules got underway with opening statements in Barnstable District Court yesterday. Manoloules is charged with the 2009 slaying of his brother Aris in Hyannis. Treefon’s 19-year-old son and brother-in-law are also charged in the case.
Authorities say Treefon wanted his brother dead because their mother, Fevronia “Nitsa” Manoloules, 77, left her entire estate to Aris. Family members, a prosecutor said, also had questions about how and why the woman died.
“(Treefon) was the architect of this crime,” prosecutor Brian Glenny told a Barnstable Superior Court jury in his opening statement yesterday.
Glenny said Aris Manoloules was shot four times by Treefon’s brother-in-law, Robert Upton, with a gun he bought with $300 that Treefon Manoloules gave him. Taking part in the plot was Treefon Manoloules’ son Christopher, who is now 19, the prosecutor said.
