Members of the Wrestling team competed at All-states last weekend. They won’t be moving onto New England Championships. But between their performances and all the news and photos shared, they earned their own post.

I also have news on the wrestling careers of two Algonquin alum.

First, here are the contributed photos. Click thumbnails to enlarge

On behalf of the ARHS varsity wrestling team, Eileen Cozzolino shared:

Sending four wrestlers to the All States this last weekend was an new record for the Tomahawks. While wrestling the best of the best in the state only one wrestler advanced into the second day of the championships. Sophomore Drew Cozzolino went 3-3 over the weekend and placed 8th in his 113 weight class.

No doubt Cozzolino with teammates Austin Roche (132) and Bryce Finnegan ( 120) will be back to help lead their team to another successful season next year. Senior Captain Nate Morrell will be attending the Stockbridge School at UMass for Agriculture next fall. Still undecided where he will attend college next fall, Senior Captain David Wrin finished his career with the maroon and gold with an impressive 97 career wins.

Wrin credits his team’s success to their consistent work ethic. Coach Kramer and Coach Gray expected nothing less than 100% at every practice. No doubt they will be looking to claim the Mid-Watch League title again next year and send even more wrestlers into the post season championship tournaments.

Cozzolino also shared news from college on a former team captain:

More T-Hawk pride was shown this weekend at Roger Williams University. Former Tomahawk Dylan Foley captured a 1st place finish in the NCAA Division lll Northeast Wrestling Championships. Foley moves onto the Division lll National Championships in Hershey, PA on March 13-14 in pursuit of a National Championship at 165lbs.

Dylan wrestled for the first time at Nationals last year and placed 6th. His biggest fans & supporters, parents Jim and Lesley Foley of Southborough will be ringside cheering on their son who is currently a senior at Springfield College and recently broke the 100 college career wins a few weeks ago.

When he was the captain for Algonquin he notched up 109 wins and a 4th place finish at the New Englands his senior year.

She’s not the only wrestling mom with news to share. Tessa Stephens wrote me about her son, an Algonquin alum-turned professional wrestler:

Drew Donaldson ARHS class of 2003 was a proponent of starting a wrestling group at the high school way back in ’02, ’03.

Unfortunately the time wasn’t right. After graduating from Colby Sawyer College he went on to wrestle under contract with the WWE and now with Ronin Pro Wrestling.
