To kick off their new season, Assabet Valley Mastersingers will hold a “Summer Sing” this month. While the concert will feature AVM members and professional soloists, it also encourages audience members to join in.
The singing group*, which includes Southborough members, will be holding the event in a neighboring town. The group has previously touted the annual events as a way to “welcome music lovers of all ages to experience the transformational power of choral music”. This year, they promote:
Kick off the season with Vivaldi’s joyful energy and Lauridsen’s luminous beauty.
The featured work for this year’s Summer Sing is Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” will be provided. A press release further describes the works:
Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” is a wonderfully sunny nature of the Gloria, with its distinctive melodies and rhythms, is characteristic of all of Vivaldi’s music, giving it an immediate and universal appeal. Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” is made up of five connected movements that contain references to “Light,” assembled from various sacred Latin texts. Composed in response to an immediate family member’s final illness, Lauridsen found great comfort in setting the music to timeless and wondrous words about Light.
